Welcome Back

Welcome back to the new school year.

We have eleven new pupils who have started in Reception year. They have made an excellent start to school life and have particularly enjoyed playing in our outside area. I am confident they will settle in very quickly to Kilby St Mary’s.

This year we also welcome new pupils in Year 1, Year 2 and Year 5 and we hope they will quickly feel part of our school community.

Welcome Mrs Morris and Mrs Willmott-Bradshaw in class 3

We have two new teachers in class 3. We welcome them to Kilby School and hope they will be very happy here.

Class 3 Refurbishment

During the summer break class 3 was redecorated and many of the out of date storage units have been removed, leaving a much larger teaching area. Heating and lighting has been replaced and updated and a new sink, worktop and units have been installed. The classroom is now bright and inviting for pupils and teachers. Please drop in after school to take a look.

Playground Improvements

During the holiday our playground has been resurfaced and Basketball Posts have been installed. New playground markings make it possible for the pupils to play both netball and basketball in this area. Improvements to drainage around the court will ensure we can enjoy this facility all year round.

Many shrubs and bushes have been moved to improve safety and visibility in all areas and this has opened the playground area up. It certainly feels more spacious.

Please come and see the changes at the end of the school day.

Mandarin Lessons

Following my recent study trip to China, funded by the Confucius Institute, I have been able to secure the help of Chinese teachers who will deliver Mandarin Lessons to our pupils in Class 3 and Class 4. This is a very exciting opportunity for the school and also for the pupils. I am sure they will find these sessions fascinating.

Church Services

During the school year we hold two Church Services on a Sunday. These are Harvest and Christingle. These services include performances from the pupils and all families are warmly invited to join us. It is a lovely opportunity to feel part of the Church community. Please make a note of the dates: Harvest Sunday 27th September 2015 at 3pm and Christingle Sunday 6th December 2015  at 3pm.

Calling All Parents!

Is there anyone who could help us with swimming on a regular basis? This would involve supporting the class teachers as they supervise the KS2 pupils on the bus to and from Oadby Swimming Baths, each Wednesday afternoon. If you think that you could help please speak to Ms Denney.

After School Club and Breakfast Club

BC runs from 7.45am to 8.50am everyday and includes a breakfast of cereal or toast and a drink. ASC runs from 3.20 to 5.45pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Pupils can be booked in for just the first hour and will be provided with a drink. Alternatively pupils can stay for the full session and will be provided with a light, healthy snack and a drink. Please contact the office if you wish to take up a place and haven’t already done so.

A Prompt Start Please!

All children should be in school by 8.55am. Anyone arriving after this time will need to access the school through the Reception and will be marked late.

Labelling

Please ensure all school uniform is labelled clearly with your child‘s name. We already have a number of items with no names on in the lost property.

SATs Week

SATs week for Y6 pupils is in the week beginning 9th May 2016. This is a very important week for Y6 pupils and is also used as an assessment week for all pupils in school. It is very important for all children to be in school during this week.

Money on a Monday Please

Can all monies for lunches, trips etc. be submitted to the office on a Monday in an envelope detailing what the money is for. This enables office staff to bank all money at the same time. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

PE Kit

All pupils are required to wear the correct PE kit for their games and PE lessons: Plimsolls or trainers; navy blue or black shorts ; a plain white T shirt  and a navy blue or black tracksuit can be worn in the winter months for outdoor Games. Please ensure all kit is clearly labelled.
