Issue 8 24th April 2015

Phillippa Denney, Headteacher.

Leicester Riders

Basketball coaching for class 3 and class 4 is planned for Thursday afternoons in place of their usual PE lesson. There is also an ASC for pupils in Y2 – Y6 which is turning out to be very popular. The pupils are thoroughly enjoying learning and developing their skills whilst working with the Leicester Riders.

Alberto Costa Visits Kilby

Parliamentary candidate for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa visited Kilby St Mary’s School to meet the pupils and staff. The children had opportunity to ask questions about his role and what being an MP would be like.

Class 4 meet parliamentary candidate

Breakfast Club

Children attending breakfast club get a choice of toast or cereal and time to chat and play with their friends.

After School Club

This term in ASC, pupils will have chance to play outside in good weather and try out new sports equipment. Art and craft activities are regularly organised and pupils have access to the wide range of toys and games. Please book in early to avoid disappointment.

Collective Worship

Next week in Collective Worship we will be thinking about: Jesus freely offers forgiveness

Family Assembly 1st May

There will be a musical performance by the flute and fife players at our next family assembly. Everyone is welcome.

Do not park on yellow zigzag lines outside the school. This is very dangerous and creates a hazard for our pupils.

Sports Kit

Pupils are expected to wear white T shirts and black or dark blue shorts in the summer months. Please ensure your child is properly equipped.

Yet again I feel the need to write about the late arrival to school of some of our pupils. Pupils are missing vital learning activities and more importantly, they are upset and anxious when brought into school after 8.55am. I urge all parents to make every effort to get their children to school on time.

Our new spelling scheme ’Read Write Inc’ is being taught everyday for 20mins. This approach replaces the more traditional weekly spelling tests. It is hoped that all pupils will progress well with their spellings. Please support your child with this at home.

SATs Week

SATs week for Y6 pupils is in the week beginning 11th May 2015. This is a very important week for Y6 pupils and is also used as an assessment week for all pupils in school. It is very important for all children to be in school during this week.
