Sport Premium Funding

What is Sport Premium Funding?

The Sport Premium funding is money that is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

"The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per year for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers." Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. (Taken from the DFE website November 2013)

How do we use Sports Premium Funding?

At Kilby St Mary’s, we hope that PE and Sport inspires all children to become physcially confident and promote health and fitness. We aim to do this through:

  • High quality teaching and learning
  • Promoting physical activity through cross curricular lessons
  • Promoting teamwork through competitive sports and 'friendly' games
  • Promote the emotional well-being of every child
  • Providing opportunities for children to try out new activities
  • A cross curricular approach including physical elements
  • Developing young leaders through Sports Ambassadors

We are spending the funding on developing the range of opportunities to partake in sports and purchasing equipment for PE, sports and gymnastics.

We have used experienced and well qualified sports and swimming teachers to deliver inspirational lessons which have brought increased enthusiasm and skill to our children. Observing excellent practice is also allowing our teachers to develop and extend their knowledge of specific teaching skills.

We have also been able to extend the games equipment available to our playground leaders that assist the other children during playtime and lunchtimes.

There are sports clubs available run by the teachers within school that are not funded through the Sports Premium, many of which involve competitions with other schools within our development group.
