Newsletter 5 (11th November 2016)

Class One News

11th November 2016

Only a short newsletter this week after a very successful parents evening with all.

The children are all working very hard in Class One and the progress they have made since September is evident in all areas of the curriculum and the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The support you are providing at home is helping in many ways.

Next week, in Numeracy, our topic will be changing from ‘Subtraction’ to ‘Shape and Pattern’, working on recognising 2D and 3D shapes, classifying and grouping different shapes and making patterns with shapes. In Literacy we will start finding out about animals of the night and listening to some lovely fictional stories.

’Dd’ followed by ‘Gg’ are the next two weeks’ sounds for our sound table and focused handwriting session.

Points of concern

As the weather is changing and our outdoor area is succumbing to the elements (now quite wet and muddy), we wondered if you have any spare wellingtons that you could send into school as a second pair of shoes, as we like to use the outdoor space in all weathers. Also on those very wintry days, make sure gloves and hats are provided to keep extremities warm.

There has recently been an increase in the amount of toys coming in from home to school (many little items hidden in pockets.) Please could we ask you not to let your child bring in any precious items as the children get distracted and upset if items go missing.

Finally, we hope you enjoy looking at the online photos of recent weeks.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. O’Sullivan and Mrs. Turner
